EDUCATIONAL SUMMER CAMPS
Forensics Camps
In these camps, we treat students as Forensic Crime Unit trainees. They are provided with confidential police reports, collected field samples, and laboratory training in Chemical, Molecular, Biological and Microscopic techniques to help support the criminal investigation. Students also form their own theories about the case.

The University of Maryland, partnered with Discover STEAM in July 2025, to provide a week long Forensics camp to rising Juniors, Seniors and First year Montgomery County Community College Students. This camp partnership was unique in that it was held at the Universities of Shady Grove and also featured a campus tour, activities and discussions with UMD faculty, outside speakers such as lawyers, a Montgomery County Forensic Crime unit supervisor and a court room subject matter expert that gave testimony in two criminal trials.

Montgomery County Public Library (MCPL) partnered with Discover STEAM to provide four one-week long Forensics camps in the summer of 2024. These camps were open for free to teens across the county and held at four different MCPL branches.
Art Camps
Montgomery County Public Library (MCPL) partnered with Discover STEAM to provide four one-week long camps in the summer of 2025. These camps were open for free to teens across the county and held at four different MCPL branches. Two of the camps were on Eastern Folk Art, teens learned some history and used various media to reproduce pieces used or illustration ,or they used them to inspire their own master pieces (see our photo gallery here). The other two camps were on Polymer Art, where teens used acrylic resins, made their own molds, worked with Sculpey clay, liquid Sculpey, Perler beads, and Shrinky Dinks (see our photo gallery here).
Scientist in Nature Camp (ages 11- 13)
Croydon Creek Nature Center partnered with Discover STEAM to provide a one-week long camp, called Scientist in Nature during the summer of 2024. Discover STEAM's curriculum included microscopy of tiny aquatic lifeforms, chromatography of plant leaves and flowers, making pigments from natural objects, making paints, painting, making paper and more.
Engineer in Nature Camp (ages 8 - 10)
Croydon Creek Nature Center also partnered with Discover STEAM to provide a one-week long camp, called Scientist in Nature during the summer of 2024. Discover STEAM's curriculum included 3D design and printing, robotics, nest building, egg drop, and multiple engineering challenges.
Little One's Nature Camp
This camp is offered directly to the public by Discover STEAM, it is designed for 3 to 7 year olds. We combine nature walks with the identification of insects, plants, animal prints, and microscopic organisms. We dissect flowers and make crafts with flowers we press ourselves. Other crafts include making star fish after viewing them under the stage microscope and other animals. We also make stamps from edible plants.
